Back in 2014 fresh out of school, when more than 75% of the South Indian student population was busy chasing Medicine and Engineering after the announcement of the higher secondary results, I firmly stood apart from the flock. Unlike others, I didn’t have the big picture, painted and framed, all ready and set to abide. But I was sure of one thing – to choose a career that would bring out the best in me, that is both fascinating and purpose-driven. Determined not to settle for an accustomed future, I decided to opt an exceptional path. I chose fashion.

 

I am Sona from India, an aspiring young fashion & textile designer in practice who was introduced to the world of creative designing by an impulsive decision. From childishly fancying it to be all about just catwalks and ball gowns to thoroughly becoming acquainted with the interesting reality of the industry, it has been a bounteous journey. It was all the eclectic attributes of design that enlightened me, thereby changing my initial supposition in the process. I was utterly intrigued to learn about things I didn’t even think belonged to fashion and fabrics.

Now, designing is my passion. I constantly seek inspirational materials and as a result, research and conceptualization have become a part of my hobby. As a designer, my niche is the womenswear market for all ages, sizes and shapes. I love sketching and I am very comfortable in both manual and digital illustration medium. As a person, I love to read and write, enjoy singing tunes, sort of a Cinephilia and adore learning new languages! But most importantly, I love taking risks – anything beyond my cosy comfort zone. 

 

I always strive to enrich my professional knowledge as much as possible and mould myself into a professional design practitioner. I’m passionately interested in design and I am continuously preparing myself both professionally and personally, to handle all the challenges and workloads of a commendable fashion designer in a mature manner. Therefore, I am determined to witness how far I can endeavour with my abilities in this highly competitive field and work my best to set a mark with my utmost capability.
